For an artist of such circumscribed talent, mario was given scrupulous attention, many connoisseurs poring over works that warranted nothing more than a cursory glance.
my breakdown - mario was an artist with limited talent. she was given high attention. many experts read carefully that justified more than at a glance.
Is that stand any meaning??

You have some of the components of the basic meaning of the sentence. I understand it as follows. Mario has limited talent. However, his work was given a great deal of attention. The experts looked very closely at his paintings, which, to the writer of the sentence, were not worthy of anything more than a quick look. It is the third part of sentence that differs most from your interpretation. However, I can well understand any confusion!
