Common sense or the average experience tells us: having multiple affairs is a sign of loneliness after all. We try or want multiple bonds in order to compensate our feeling which is basically emptiness.
If we consider this assumption (in the real world we do have a plethora of scientific research on this argument) could be the case that this scenario is NOT all true. It does not hold always.
It all depends also on pour personal experience and perspective.
Now, having in mind our assumption it is also true that this behavior, not all the time is a defense, or a shield against the loneliness itself because someone could have multiple relationships just because want to do so. NOT because is alone or feel alone
The key concept is that we use those relationships to defend ourselves from loneliness BUT not all the time is true.
Defense = bulwark against
For this reason, E is off. You do not use multiple bonds to substitute loneliness. You do not want replace loneliness. You want to shield yourself from it BUT not all the time, to set up this wall is true. Maybe I want that because I want just fun
A good question, really. However, maybe is a bit too far in its craftmenship. I do not see many clues to pick up B as blank like I see in the official questions
In the end, a good question, though!!
