After reading "ever" take a pause. It becomes easy to comprehend the sentence.

(B) If the poet is a master of “subtlety,” and if he makes others seem heavyhanded (clumsy), then he would use intimations (implications).

basically, the author, with his mastering of the subject, made OTHERS similar depictions obscure.

I.E. his nuances made CLEAR his way of writing and the OTHERS are more obscure

Therefore, he was really good at giving hints = B
