Hi all first timer here, I have tried to write and argument essay as I am tired of reading its how to's and how not's. I humbly would like to have a reflection of my writing so that I can improve.
Topic:
“Woven baskets characterized by a particular distinctive design pattern have previously been found only in the immediate vicinity of the prehistoric village of Palea and therefore were believed to have been made only by the Palean people. Recently, however, archaeologists discovered such a “Palean” basket in Lithos, an ancient village across the Brim River from Palea. The Brim River is very deep and broad, and so the ancient Paleans could have crossed it only by boat, and no Palean boats have been found. Thus it follows that the so-called Palean baskets were not uniquely Palean.
Write a response in which you discuss one or more alternative explanations that could rival the proposed explanation and explain how your explanation or explanations can plausibly account for the facts presented in the argument.”
Answer
While it may be true that the Palean baskets were not originally Palean but the author has not presented any supportive claims about his notion. In other words, the author claims that, the palen baskets which were previously considered to be Palen being found in some other regions have questioned their originality. However, the author has not given any robust evidence to support his claims, to be generalized in a manner that one could believe his/her argument. Additionally, the author needs to answer the following questions before making any rash judgement about the nature of the origin of the baskets.
Firsty, can it be believed that, the baskets were only made in the Palean region. The author has not presented any proponent claim to support his argument. One cannot simply believe that the Palean baskets could only be made in the Palean region. Could not it be possible that the Palean learned the skill of making baskets from another village? Later then , they might have mastered the skill with, adding their own dimensions to make them unique. Unless, the author presents any valid claim or report that the Palean baskets were originally Palean, the author cannot be believed.
Additionally, the author implies that the archeologists discovery of a palen basket across the brim river has also added up to it not being indigenous. It is not clear that, the specialists discovery which is cited by the author is stated to be valid. Any research/discovery lacking evidence and corroboration is not considered to be acceptable. The research work might be of an independent team of archaeologists which might have happened to found a Palean basket and came to a naive judgment that the baskets origin should be put under scrutiny.
Finally, the claim posed by the author of being the river deep and failure of the discovery of the wrecks of the boats, could be presented to accept his/her claims. It might be the situation that the river might not have been searched thoroughly and the reminiscences of the boat might still beneath the river. It also be might be the case that the boat might have been flown away by the river, because in ancient times the skill might not have been to its paragon to build a multifunctional boat, which could remain intact even after sinking into the water. it is also not clear by the authors claim that the boats could not be found he has not presented any supportive claims for his judgment to be accepted.
Art and culture are the pillars of the human civilizations which has grown throughout the century. Preserving and searching for its origins is itself a cumbersome task to accomplish at present. If a person wants to search upon the history he/she needs to provide additional evidence to his argument. However, the author’s claim is not likely appealing to believe that the baskets were not Palean.
Dear All, I would like to have an insight to my writing so that I can work on my weak parts. Thank you all.
