Re: For all real numbers a and b, the operation is defined by [#permalink]
Given that a ⊕ b = 2a – b and we need to find the absolute value of the difference between (3 ⊕ 1) ⊕ 2 and 6 ⊕ 3

Lets start by finding the value of 3 ⊕ 1

To find 3 ⊕ 1 we need to compare what is before and after ⊕ in 3 ⊕ 1 and a ⊕ b

=> We need to substitute a with 3 and b with 1 in a ⊕ b to get the value of 3 ⊕ 1

=> 3 ⊕ 1 = 2*3 – 1 = 6 - 1 = 5

=> (3 ⊕ 1) ⊕ 2 = 5 ⊕ 2

Similarly, 5 ⊕ 2 = 2*5 - 2 = 10 - 2 = 8
=> (3 ⊕ 1) ⊕ 2 = 8

6 ⊕ 3 = 2*6 - 3 = 12 - 3 = 9

=> Absolute value of ((3 ⊕ 1) ⊕ 2) - 6 ⊕ 3 = | 8 - 9 | = |-1| = 1 (Watch this video to learn about the Basics of Absolute Value)

So, Answer will be 1
Hope it helps!

For all real numbers a and b, the operation is defined by [#permalink]
1
Shortest and Easiest way to solve...

It is very simple, as we have been given a + b= 2a - b(put it in respective data)
1) 3 + 1= 2(3)-1=5
5 + 2= 2(5)-2=8

so by solving 1) we get 8

2) 6 + 3=2(6)-3=9

so by solving 2) we get 9

Now, by subtracting 1) from 2) we get
8 - 9= -1

Answer:- -1
