Jack brought a 12-slice pizza to a party so that everybody could have a slice. If only five people had one slice each, and then Jack helped himself to one-fourth of the remaining pizza, then what fraction of the pizza is left after Jack has helped himself? Give your answer in its simplest form.
Are you transcribed the question correctly?
1 slice = 1/12 of pizza
Five people had 1 slice. So, 5/12 of the pizza has been EATEN.
This means 7/12 of the pizza REMAINS
Jack ate one-fourth of the REMAINING pizza
So, Jack ate 1/4 of 7/12 of the pizza.
ORRR we can say that Jack DIDN'T EAT 3/4 of 7/12 of the pizza.
(3/4)(7/12) = 7/16
So, 7/16 of the pizza REMAINS
