fractions, lowest terms

I'm studying using the new bank of questions at mygretutor and I cant figure out this one:
Which quantity is larger?
A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.
x is the denominator when 0.375 is expressed as a fraction in its lowest terms, and
y is the denominator when 0.3125 is expressed as a fraction in its lowest terms.
Does it matter which number I put in as x or y?

Does it matter which number I put in as x or y? Yeah it does. When you say the fraction is reduced to its lowest term then numerator and denominator has no common factors.
0.375 is \(\frac{3}{8}\) in lowest term.
0.3125 is \(\frac{5}{!6}\) in lowest term.
So x is 8 and y is 16.
Option A is correct!
