Many people preparing for the GRE plan to apply to master's programmes. But if you enjoy asking research questions, analysing data, and creating new knowledge, a PhD could be another path worth exploring.

I'm part of the Recruitment & Admissions team for the INSEAD PhD in Management. I've been a member of the GRE Club community for several years and have enjoyed connecting with prospective applicants from around the world. During that time, I've spoken with many people who hadn't initially considered a PhD until they learned more about what it involves. If that's you, I'd be happy to answer your questions.

Here are a few things that many prospective applicants or just anyone who is curious about our programme don't realise:

•You don't need a business degree. Our students come from a wide range of disciplines, including economics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, psychology, sociology, political science, operations research, and many others.
•You don't necessarily need a master's degree. Outstanding applicants may apply directly from their undergraduate studies.
• Career switchers are welcome. Some of our strongest applicants come from industry, bringing several years of professional experience before transitioning into academia.
•The programme is fully funded. Admitted students receive financial support throughout the five-year programme, allowing them to focus on developing as researchers.
•It's a truly international experience. Students study across our campuses in Europe (France) and Asia (Singapore) and work closely with internationally recognised faculty.
•Our graduates go on to faculty positions at leading business schools and universities around the world.

When you apply to the programme, you specialise in one of the eight areas:
• Accounting & Control • Decision Sciences • Entrepreneurship • Finance
• Marketing • Organisational Behaviour • Strategy • Technology & Operations Management

We are now recruiting for our mid-August 2027 intake, with the online application opening in the first week of September 2026.
Our application timeline is:

• Preferred application deadline: Mid-December 2026
• Final submission deadline: 4 January 2027
• Open one-way interview deadline: 6 January 2027
