Manhattan prep Company indeed is one of the lead company to prepare the students for their exams, being GMAT - GRE - LSAT and so forth. I call it one of the five stars because along with
Veritas Prep,
Kaplan,
The Princeton Review, and
Magoosh they represent the top class, you do not go wrong with one of them.
However, if I should pick one among,
Manhattan Prep is probably my favorite for different reasons:
- The strategy they teach is almost score-proof;
- Their practice material almost always - if not always - is the one that most closely resembles the original material provided by the author of the official exams, being GMAT GRE or whatever you could imagine;
- Their tutors score in the 99% percentile score;
- Their offer to the students stretches to the best, in every aspect.
With all this in mind, I have approached the new book, the newborn, the newcomer with such enthusiasm. No really, I am so passionate to exams such as GRE and GMAT that when new material comes out and as it turns out it could give me a new insight, a new hint, a unique perspective to tackle the exam, well, I am so happy. Eventually, I went through the book in one breath. I have to admit it is a kilometric book. I bought in Kindle edition, but I do not want to imagine to bring it with me around: over seven hundred pages - a tome. They have condensed what was divided into several books in the previous version -
Manhattan Prep GRE Set of 8 Strategy Guides my review
here - in one huge brick.
Before we had the book of algebra, the publication of word problems but now we have all these in one spot called unit. In the same unfolding of the books aforementioned.
According to the same company, this book is "
The content in the new Manhattan Prep GRE Math Strategies is an updated version of the math content in the Manhattan Prep GRE Set of 8 Strategy Guides.". Unfortunately, this is not correctly true, if not at all. I have scanned the entire book from the cover to the acknowledgments, and the only difference I have spotted is the missing table about what to do and what do not with inequalities (it was so useful as a recap for the student to bear in mind).
For the rest, if you compare every single book of the previous version with this book side by side, not a comma is changed. No a single question or example to teach, to mastery, to consolidate every unique concept exam-related is new. ALL IS THE SAME. This book is exactly the mirror of the previous book sets. On top of that, things get worse when we reach the end of the book: in the earlier version, we had the drill sets to cement every single math concept, strategy, tips taught you along the way. Moreover, we had the practice question sets in which the questions had been divided into easy/medium/hard level of difficulty and the questions itself were amazing. Everything was perfect (or almost).
In this new version, all this have been faded out. Completely. Gone. With much my surprise, I must admit. It is a real step behind, almost a Waterloo for
Manhattan Prep, considering when it comes out with a new product the attention to the details, the high stringent standards they use both to craft the theory and the practice to provide the top-notch material overall. Of course, we cannot pretend that from one book to a new release an overhaul comes into play, this is impossible. Unless the exam itself is not changed (the last GRE shift was in 2011) most of the books are good for years to come. However, in this case, the amount of money that the students should spend on this new-old version is not justified.
For those who do not have the previous set of books, I would certainly buy this. Having all that Manhattan offers in one book is convenient and easy to use. However, who has already the previous release, is time to look somewhere else. Here, there is nothing new under the sun.
I give it four stars because the quality of the contents is high, as always, but a copy and paste this turn could be avoided.

At
Manhattan Prep Company did an amazing job crafting and releasing this book about the verbal part of the GRE test: from the book you learn, eventually, all the possible strategies, tips, and tricks to tackle in the most efficient way in the less time possible the 3 type of questions during the test: TC, SC, and RC.
Ideally, the version of the book is the following: "
The content in the new Manhattan Prep GRE Math Strategies is an updated version of the math content in the Manhattan Prep GRE Set of 8 Strategy Guides.".
However, the only upgrade that you see is the melting of the previous three verbal manhattan guides, and that as it turns out they were part of the
Manhattan Prep GRE Set of 8 Strategy Guides - my review
here, in one huge book.
The Good**************************************************************************
If you follow the strategy of this book religiously, you will certainly land the highest score during the GRE exam. The tutors who wrote the book will lead you by hand throughout every possible nuance about a long and short passage, signal words that warn you about a possible meaning shift, how to conduct a four-step process to analyze and tackle even the most difficult one, how to take notes, traps to avoid like a plague. Everything you could imagine is in the book. The drill sets for every type of question, in which the questions are categorized in three difficulty level: easy, medium; and hard, are five stars. Nothing to point out. Moreover, the explanations are well-rounded. No expense has been spared. Pick this book with confidence.
The Bad*************************************************************************
This book does not bring into the picture anything new. This is kinda a shame. I would expect at least 20% of new material and never published from one release and the following upgrade. However, this is not the case. In my opinion, you should buy the book, which is not expensive after all, only and solely if you DO NOT have the previous MGRE verbal books. Otherwise, the spending is not justified.
Overall*************************************************************************
The book is in the top-grade position of the category. However, it is only for those who do not have the previous version. I am a huge fan of
Manhattan Prep Company for their outstanding job to teach to the students everything is possible for the highest score but a book equal to the previous ones, leads me to some disquiet.
