If you are planning to apply in 2018 spring, then you have lot of time considering deadlines. You can utilize this time very well for scoring high. For starting your preparation follow these guideline:
Before you start your preparation decide in which month of the year you are going to take your exam, and see how much time you have for preparation. Also if you are targeting some specific universities then you must know what are application deadline and desirable GRE score for these universities.
Once you are done with above things, then you can start your preparation. You will need to prepare for :
1. Analytical Writing
2. Verbal Section
3. Quant Section
Analytical Writing section consist of:
1. Analyze an issue task
2. Analyze an argument task
Verbal Section consist of:
1. Single blank questions
2. Double blank questions
3. Triple blank questions
4. Reading comprehension
1. Short Passages(20–25 lines)
2. Long passages(40–50 lines)
Quant section consist of:
Start learning vocabulary from first day, since without good vocabulary you cannot score in verbal section.
Purchase this book: Word Power Made Easy by Norman Lewis. This is the best book I know for learning vocabulary.(though only these words are not enough for GRE . You will need to do more words after you finish this book)
Do not buy this book if you have less time(like One month or something) , rather directly go for GRE vocabulary.
Start reading news paper editorials.
You can read articles on websites in your free time. This will help you with your reading speed.
Practice for Discrete questions and RC passages.
Learn Fundamentals of Quant topics. For learning basic formula and technique to solve problems you can solve examples in R. S. Agarwal quantitative aptitude. (solve only solved examples since you just want to get technique for solving problems and problems in this book are very different than what will be in GRE).
YouTube is a good for learning about topics that you find difficult.
Write as many essays as you can on both. (issue and argument)
Practice for all sections mentioned above to prepare yourself for GRE, and once you are done with your preparation start giving mock tests.
At last when you will have only 1 week left before your GRE, Take power prep mock tests (there are two). These tests are design by ETS and are most important mock tests.
That is all you have to do.
