Re: Help me to choose graduate program. Major concern is Energy. [#permalink]
I am also a petroleum engineer. Yes the market is flooded with unemployed PEs right now. Are you wanting to stay in the oil and gas industry for the long term or move to a different industry. I myself have chosen to stay in oil and gas and just make myself as qualified as possible. If you have already secured a position with an organization that you like, then my suggestion is just do everything possible to hold on to that job and also continuosly improve your qualifications and skills.

I suggest you explore the following questions:

1) What do you enjoy learning about and could almost never get tired of?

2) How can major x help you solve problem w? (w is a problem that people care about and you obsess over)

3) What fields and types of roles excite you? (a reverse engineer from there)

Just remember, your work experiences, service projects, and transferable skills matter a lot more than your major.
