How Estimation Can Save Time on GRE Quant
Estimation is a powerful tool that can simplify complex GRE Quant problems, especially when you find yourself stuck or short on time. When a question feels difficult to solve through traditional methods, estimation can give you a clear sense of whether an answer is reasonable or not.
For example, imagine you are asked to calculate 4.17 multiplied by 199. Rather than performing an exact multiplication, you can round 4.17 to 4 and 199 to 200. Then multiply 4 by 200 to get an estimated answer of 800. If the answer choices are 8.30, 83, 830, and 8,300, this quick estimate immediately eliminates all but one option. You now have a confident answer, and you have reached it in a fraction of the time it would take to do the exact math.
Estimation is especially useful for eliminating clearly incorrect choices and narrowing your options. It also allows you to stay efficient and avoid getting bogged down in unnecessary calculations. When used appropriately, it can provide just the clarity you need to move forward with confidence on test day.
