How is the GRE Test Scored?The computer-based GRE has an adaptive algorithm that adjusts the difficulty level of the test based on the exam taker’s performance. The first section of Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning are of average difficulty level, with a combination of easy and hard questions. The difficulty of the second section depends upon the performance in the first. Exam takers who perform well will “level up” to a more difficult second section, thereby, increasing their score by some points in any case than an exam taker who has performed average in the first section.
