Re: If 2x = 2y + 1, then which of the following could be true? [#permalink]
Carcass how is E right option?
if x = 1.5 ,y =1
2x = 2y + 1 ( subtract 2y from both sides)
2x - 2y = 1
2(1.5) - 2(1) = 1
x>y (option a)

9x + 12y = 36 ?

2x=2y+1

x=y+0.5

now

9x+12y=36

9(y+0.5)+12y=36

work on it

y=31.5/21=1.5

x=y+0.5

x=1.5+0.5=2

x=2 and y=1.5

x=y+0.5

2=1.5+0.5

2=2

E could also be true

Notice how this is not a GRE question because option D was added, and therefore, the original question had 4 answer choices.

It is a variation. Good for practice algebra but is is not a GRE like question
