Again, solve for the numbers in the parentheses before subtracting: B = (20 − 7) − 6. Therefore, B = 7. Be careful, the question is asking for A − B = 19 − 7 = 12. Plug y = 7 and c = 3 into the answers. Only (E) yields the target, 12. Choice (C) is a trap designed to catch test takers who subtracted before simplifying the numbers in the parentheses.

\(2x − (y − 2c)\) minus (we change all the signs of the elements of B
\(-2x+y+2c\)
So we do have that \(A-B= 2x − y + 2c -2x+y+2c\)
2x and -2x cancel out
y as well
We left with \(2c+2c=4c\)
E is the answer
