If a certain bus line’s ridership in July was 3/5 of its ridership in June, and its ridership in August was 1/3 of its ridership in July, then the bus line’s ridership in June was how many times the average (arithmetic mean) of its ridership in July and August?

Let the ridership in June be 100. Then the ridership in the month of July would be 3/5 of 100 = 60 & the ridership for the month of August would be 1/3 of 60 = 20. Arithmetic mean of ridership for the months of July and August is (60+20)/2 = 40. The bus line's ridership for June is 2 1/2 times of its ridership in July and August.
So the answer is D
