The area of the square is s^2
The perimeter is 4s
Make an equation s^2+4s=77
Solve and we do have s=-11 and s=7
Negative sign is not possible therefore s=7

The area of a certain square = \(x^2\)
The perimeter = \(4x\)
Their sum is \(77\)
\(x^2 + 4x = 77\)
\(x^2 + 4x - 77 = 0\)
\(x^2 + 11x - 7x - 77 = 0\)
\(x(x+11) -7(x+11) = 0\)
\((x-7)(x+11) = 0\)
\(x = 7 or -11\)
Since the side of a square cannot be negative, \(x = 7\) is the correct answer.
The perimeter = \(4x\)
Their sum is \(77\)
