Or range means number of elements in a set?

If range is 9, then how can you take x as -7? It would be 9 - (-7) = 16
you can take x as 0 only then it would be 9 - 0 = 9, no?

Range is the difference between largest and the smallest number in the set. Here it is given that range is 9, which means x must be be 9 numbers greater or less than 2.
Thus, 2 - 9 = -7 and 2 + 9 = 11.

9 is larger - so you are not correct
s can be 0 - the range is 9 - 0 = 9

The range is 9, which means that x can be 0 or 11.

When x = 0, median = 5.
When x = 11, median = 7.

Answer is A and C.

So, if the question is written this way, with the x in front of the 9, the x can be anywhere in the number set? I interpreted the problem to mean that the x must be greater than 9,

x can be written anywhere, else it would have been a very simple question and GRE doesn't like simple things.
