Explanation

First off, look at the second graph at the bottom: private 4-years is about 22%, which means that 22% of 5,000,000 is = 1,100,000.

Secondly: look at the first graph at the top: private 4-years has an increase from 80 to 120 about, which means is an increase of about 50%.

50% more of 1,100,000 is more or less = to 1,650,000.

E is the answer

can anyone explain 5000000 is the total enrollment in higher addition, why are we increasing it by 50% which is the % by which private 4year education grew in first graph

5,000,000 is the total amount of the 4 years: both public and private. (see the second graph, you do have 4 categories, actually).

But we only should care about of private 4-years. From the second graph, we do know that this category is the 22% of 5,000,000, which means we have 1,100,000 enrollments.

The first graph starts from 80 (the private 4-year) to 120

From what you see we have about a % increase of circa 50 %. This is a question that tastes your knowledge of the percent increase or decreases.

100 increased by 50% becomes 150%

here in a similar fashion, we do have that 1,100,000 plus 50% more is about answer choice E.

What is graoh 1 trying to say? I understand that according to graph 2, in 1972, 1,100,000 were enrolled in Private 4 year. But i don't understand the next step. In graph 1, Index of enrollement for Private 4 year increased from 80 to 120 approx. What does that mean?

The formula of % change is 120-80/80=50%

80 to 120 isn’t it a 40% increase?
