However, you can reduce the number of relevant answer choices by scanning through the answer choices. You will notice that both C and E contain 3/4*b but different factors. This cannot be true, so the answer choice must be C or E. Solving the equation will show you that E is not true.

Because x = 3a and y = 9b, 2(x+y) = 2(3a+9b) = 6a + 18b.
