It is given that in a given week, the average sales in weekends are equal to three times the average sales of rest of the five days of the week. We need to find sales in the weekend is what fraction of the total sales in the week.
Average sale from Monday to Friday = Sum of the sales from Monday to Friday/5
Sum of sales from Monday to Friday = 5𝑥 It is given that the average sale in the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) is 3 times of 𝑥. So, average sale in the weekend = 3𝑥 Average sale in the weekend =
3x=𝑆𝑢𝑚 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑘𝑒𝑛/2
Sum of sales in the weekend (on Saturday and Sunday) = (3𝑥) × (2) = 6𝑥 So, total sum of sales in the week = Sum of sales from Monday to Friday + Sum of sales in the weekend = 5𝑥 + 6𝑥 = 11x
