In the figure, line segments \(RM\), \(SM\), and \(TM\) bisect the angles of \(\triangle RST\).
Quantity A |
Quantity B |
\(\frac{x+y}{2}\) |
\(33\) |
A)The quantity in Column A is greater.
B)The quantity in Column B is greater.
C)The two quantities are equal.
D)The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.
Kudos for the right answer and explanation
Here,
line segments \(RM\), \(SM\), and \(TM\) bisect the angles of \(\triangle RST\)
so,
\(\angle MSR = \angle MST = y\)
\(\angle SRM = \angle TRM = x\)
\(\angle MTR = \angle MTS = 24\)
In \(\triangle RST\),
\(\angle MSR + \angle MST + \angle SRM + \angle TRM + \angle MTR + \angle MTS = 180\)
or \(2y + 2x + 48 =180\)
or\( x + y = 66\)
Now,
QTY A = \(\frac{x+y}{2}\) = \(\frac{66}{2} = 33\)
QTY B = \(33\)
