Note that all GRE coordinate geometry figures can be assumed drawn to scale and that f(x) notation is interchangeable with the y-coordinate in the coordinate plane, so look for the possible x values when the y-coordinate = 2, since the problem states that f(k) = 2.
Looking at the figure, the possible x values when the line intersects y = 2 are either x = -1 or the approximate range that 2 ≤ x ≤ 3.
The only answer choice that fits these values is 2.5, so the correct choice is D.
