Hi,
My trainers have been telling me that if i need good marks i need to memorize over 2000 words. Is this really necessary to memorize that many? I find it awkward because i was told the American education advocates against any sort of memorization, however even at the entry level they require that which is really contradicting. Please clarify this.

Don't think it as memorizing, think it as learning since the words make the sentence simpler.
Making a habbit of inculcating those words in your language which has 2 major benefits
1. You will never forget the words which you use in your daily language.
2. Widening of your knowledge.

2000 is not enough I think. But this can be your starting point. Everyday learn new things and increase your wisdom.
