I don't disagree in terms of GPA being a better evaluation metric and most MBA programs do consider GPA strongly as well. It is very hard to break into a top MBA program with anything less than 3.3 and very hard with a 2.9 or lower. But GPA for some could be undergrad GPA that is not ideal for a number of reasons, esp if someone went to undergrad 20 years ago or had a significant event or were subject to adversity and had to work during their undergrad to be able to support themselves. This way GRE offers another chance/redemption/etc.

I also feel that GRE/GMAT sharpen one's learning skills before school, which is quite helpful for success if they were out for a number of years.
