Hello All,
While solving the Primes and Divisibility chapter in 5 lb. Book for gre practice I encountered this question, whose explanation in the answer section didn't meet my understanding.
The question is:
If n is an integer and n3 is divisible by 24, what is the largest number that must be a factor of n?
A)1
B)2
C)6
D)8
E)12
It says it is divisible by 24, the minimum number that hits me is 6, because 6^3 is 216, and 216 is divisible by 24. So the maximum factor here is 6 as value of n is 6.
However, it asks for MAXIMUM factor. Picking up another value for n, i.e. 12, 12^3 is 1728 and it is also divisible by 24.The maximum factor here for n is 12. So among 6 and 12 the maximum factor is 12.
However, as per the answers the value must be 6.
Can someone please help me with the answer?
