Explanation

The first and third blanks have the clearest clues, so start with them. For the first blank, recycle the clue well-educated; of the choices, only erudite makes sense.
For the third blank, recycle the clue mundane; of the choices, only menial fits.

The second blank describes Dorothea, and if her marriage into a life of mundane and menial needs causes debate among Eliot scholars, then Dorothea must have been an example of a well-educated, erudite woman. Of the choices, only paradigm means example.

Hence options B, D and G is correct!

No, in this case, mundane is not properly the right clue. Mundane means: banal, silly, whilst the meaning of menial here is as servant (her).

In fact, the elderly preacher Casaubon spoused Dorthea for this specific purpose: having a servant.

The question is pretty much convoluted and tries to mislead you with difficult words and sentences but indeed it is pretty much straight in the 3 blanks.

Ask if something is unclear to you.

Menial basically means not requiring much skill and lacking prestige.

Forget that clue.

Focus on the main meaning of the sentence: considering that the main character was erudite, the only scope to matty her with an old preacher was to serve him. Simple enough.

Chimera means illusion of something that is unachievable. Here, Dorothea could be regarded as illusion as there was scarcity of such women.
