I think the word here in choice F should be trace. Trance makes little sense as it means daze or dream.

Yes, trace would make more sense. Trance is the best possible answer choice.

I'm not sure which meaning of "trance" fits into the context of this sentence. Moderators, could you please check if there is a typo in the choices or trance is a misplaced option.

Supplant is not a good choice also.
