The catch here is that globular clusters are similar in observation techniques as redwood trees. Therefore clusters can be observed "at different stages" and astronomers "can piece together the evolution ".
A- Can't say this generally, nor is this an assumption related to the passage.
B- Value is not the prerogative of the argument.
C- Correct since they are similar to redwood trees in observation style.
D- Out of scope.
E- Irrelevant. There is no mention of limited availability of both.
