The tricky part is to pinpoint how many marks are between the two marks.
The fact that they are evenly spaced does not mean that we do have two number or submarks or 4 or 8
Each interval is 0-(-10)/5=2 so we do know that between -10 and zero we do have 5 intervals
Now, between a and c we do have -12 * +4 intervals = -48
Between b and d we do have -8 + 6 intervals so -8*6=-48
C is the answer

I don't understand the explanation. Are you saying, for example, we can't assume b is -8? Why not?
