Some students will assume that \(-p^2 = (-p)^2 \), but they are not equal.
Instead, \(-p^2 = (-1)(p^2) \)
So, Let's test some numbers.....
case i: \(p = 0\)
We get:
Quantity A: \(p^2 =0^2 = 0\)
Quantity B: \(-p^2 = (-1)(p^2) = (-1)(0^2)= (-1)(0)=0\)
In this case, the two quantities are equal
case i: \(p = 1\)
We get:
Quantity A: \(p^2 =1^2 = 1\)
Quantity B: \(-p^2 = (-1)(p^2) = (-1)(1^2)= (-1)(1)=-1\)
In this case, Quantity A is greater
Answer: D
