Topic: A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college
A nation is a multifaceted entity which encompasses in itself several cultures, folklore, languages, dance forms, religions, and cuisines. Together this diversity unifies to follow a code of conduct as has been laid down by the national policies and guidelines. A nation fixates the boundary within which each sect has to operate. A nation needs to account for this diversity, yet ensure that the sentiments of each other are not hurt. All of this needs to be done iin order to maintain the entropy and nurture a peaceful symbiotic relationship.
Therefore, following a national curriculum for all the students of the society, might turn out to be a sound decision. The reason being, it provides a level playing field and results the system to operate on merit basis, doing away with any partialism and favouritism. Every now and then, there are cases wherein a heavy donation gives one an entry into a better college (than one deserves). This perturbs the educational system and has multiplier effects.
Secondly, each college will admit individuals who are more or less on the same level in terms of their intellect. Now this will nurture a competitive environment wherein all will push the gates of their mind and result in expansion of knowledge base. Moreover, it will reduce the inferiority complex and every student will more or less be motivated to learn and contribute. The extent of self-doubt and the resulting depressed stage of mind will dampen.
A national language shall act as the medium of learning, doing away with regional languages. However, the curriculum needs to take care of the diversity in different sects. For example, History subject needs to educate the students regarding the contribution of different cultures in the framing of their present. A disregard of one culture and boasting of another, will lead to violence and furore. Therefore, the national curriculum must be framed by experts from all the cultures and sects. This will result in a balanced educational system.
