Re: A company paid $500,000 in merit raises to employees whose performance [#permalink]
[quote="Carcass"]A company paid $500,000 in merit raises to employees whose performances were rated A, B, or C. Each employee rated A received twice the amount of the raise that was paid to each employee rated C; and each employee rated B received one-and a-half times the amount of the raise that was paid to each employee rated C. If 50 workers were rated A, 100 were rated B, and 150 were rated C, how much was the raise paid to each employee rated A ?

A. $370
B. $625
C. $740
D. $1,250
E. $2,500

let c= x
so
100x+3x/2+150x=5*10^5
solve for x= 1250
so A ; 2*1250 ; 2500

Another way could be the follow from GC

A little modification to the previously mentioned answer, let c = x;
A + B + C = 500,000
Also, A = 2C ; B = 3/2 C
Substituting the number of employees and the share which they receive as;
(50 * 2 * x) + (100 * 3/2 * x) + (150 * x) = 500,000
or, 100 x + 150 x+ 150 X = 500,000
or, 400 x = 500,000
or, x = 1250
A receives (2 x) = 2 * 1250 = 2500
