Average age of the couple, a day before the birth of the first child is 26 years
Let’s say A is the age of Husband, and B is the age of Wife.
Now we can say A+B/2=26

A+B=52

When the first child is born, consider sum of their ages at 𝑋.
Sum of age of family (husband, wife and child on the day when 1st child is born) is =
52 + 0 = 52 (as age of new born child is 0 years)
It is given that exactly 6 years after birth of first child at 𝑌, couple had their 2nd child.

After six years, every person in the family would age by 6 years at 𝑌.
Assuming age of 1st child be C.
Sum of their ages exactly 6 years after first child is born, A,B and C
= 52 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 0 = 70

Assuming the age of 2nd child be D. Sum of their ages 6 years after second child is
born, A, B, C and D = 70 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 94
(In six years, everyone would age by 6 years, that’s why we have added 6×4)

Sum of their ages 6 years after second child is born = 94
Average age of the family 6 years after second child is born

94/4=23.5

E is the answer
