One cup of nuts that contains exactly half peanuts and half cashews is added to a bowl of nuts that is exactly one third peanuts, one third cashews, and one third almonds. This results in a three-cup mixture of nuts. What fraction of the new nut mixture is peanuts?

\(\frac{7}{18}\)

We have to add the peanuts in both cup and bowl.
Bowl is twice of cup so 2C..
Let us take the capacity of each cup as 6, ( from fractions 1/2 and 1/3)
1) Cup...
1/2 of 6 is peanuts, so 3 units is peanuts.
2) Bowl
1/3 of bowl = 1/3*(2C)=1/3*(2*6)=4

Total = 3+4=7 units of peanuts.
Total capacity of cup and bowl = C+2C=3C=3*6=18..

Peanuts as fraction of total = 7/18
