The answers is C.
Same coloured sets:
Big mugs = 4 ways (BBB, GGG, YYY and RRR)
Small mugs = Same 4 ways
--> Total = 8 ways
Different coloured sets:
Choose 3 out of 4 colours = 4C3 = 4 , then * 2 for big and small mugs
--> 4*2 = 8 ways
Hence, total 8 + 8 = 16 ways.
Same coloured sets:
Big mugs = 4 ways (BBB, GGG, YYY and RRR)
Small mugs = Same 4 ways
--> Total = 8 ways
Different coloured sets:
Choose 3 out of 4 colours = 4C3 = 4 , then * 2 for big and small mugs
--> 4*2 = 8 ways
Hence, total 8 + 8 = 16 ways.
