Prompt: If a goal is worthy then any means to attain it are justifiable.
Accomplishing goals is a critical aspect of one's life, and the extent to which one might resort to varies from one individual to the other. The prompt states that a goal is seen as
worthy enough then any means to attain it is justified. I strongly disagree with this prompt for the following three reasons.
To begin, if someone employs means to achieve a goal that goes against the law, then he/she is bound to face legal repercussions and could potentially ruin their entire life.
Let's take for instance the stock market trader Harshad Mehta from India. He is infamous for various scams in the stock markets of India, as he manipulated the stock market several times
and gained unfair advantage, to make money. However, once he got caught by the officials it meant that he was put behind bars for his entire life, and his family would have to struggle
to pay back the hefty sum. Therefore, bending the rules or laws could seem advantageous in the short term but in the long run one is bound to have repercussions that he/she would not
be able to bounce back from. In a way we are better off not achieving our desired goal while abiding by the rules and regulations rather than breaking them and facing lifelong
consequences.
Furthermore, using any kinds of techniques to achieve a certain purpose could potentially have detrimental impacts on others lives too. For instance, the infamous Pablo Escobar
who was known to be part of the narco gangs, in his pursuit for amassing money in addition to breaking the laws, killed several civilians, police and government officials to achieve'
what he wanted. This sort of approach to life, would inevitably mean that the lives of the people around us are compromised severely which could have a severe impact for generations
to come. It is crucial to ensure that the techniques employed in achieveing our goals does not affect the lives of people around us, in any way.
Employing unethical methods to achieve a certain purpose could, might seem fruitful in the short term but in the long term it is bound to fail. For instance, let's consider
a college student who is employing unethical and immoral means to pass his exams. It would mean that he ends up doing well in those particular exams in the shorter term, but say after
a few years when he is on the lookout for jobs this would significantly lower his chances of landing a job as he does not actually have the necessary knowledge demanded by the job.
Hence, it is vital that at every stage in our life we always tackle situations morally and ethically, so that our future prospects aren't in danger.
One could argue that by employing any means to achieve a goal, he/she is at least being able to attain the goal which is a crucial aspect of life. But, the potential repercussions
to this kind of approach means that one would be better of abiding by the laws and ethics as he would be in a better position in the longer run. Hence, it is important that one employs
ethical and morally appropriate techniques to achieve his/her goal.
