We can clearly see,
When 38 is divided by 7, the remainder is 3

If N divided by D equals Q with remainder R, then:
N = DQ + R
Hence, n = 35k + 3.
Let's assume that k = 1. Then, we have the number 38.
38/7 will give us a remainder of 3.
Bonus: this can be easily determined on a calculator by dividing 38 by 7, taking only the decimal component, and multiplying that by 7 (the divisor in this case).
Hence, the remainder is 3.
