The 2000 Olympic female shoveling champion averaged 15 shovels full of sand every 15 seconds Rate = output/time = (15 shovels full)/(15 seconds) = 1 shovel full per second
How many shovels full of sand would she be able to take in 3 minutes? 3 minutes = 180 seconds. Output = (rate)(time) = (1 shovel full per second)(180 seconds) = 180 shovels
