On a particular day.
the Probability (for Rains) = 0.4...............(1)
the Probability (for No Rain) = 0.6............(2)
Probability (picnic cancelled in case of rains) = 0.9..............(3)
hence, Probability (picnic conducted in case of rains) = 0.1...(4)
also, Probability (picnic conducted in case of no rains) = 0.95...(5)
To find the probabilty that the picnic will take place, we need to use equations (1), (2), (4) and (5).
Using the formula for mutually exclusive events (ie, Rains and No Rains), we get
Probability (picnic conducted) = 0.4*0.1 + 0.6*0.95
= 0.04 + 0.57
= 0.61 (or, 61%)...Hence (D)
