Hi hope you are having a great day,
Looking back, he was amazed by his own (i) ________ . His experienced friends told him that there was no fast way to learn guitar. They said that he would just have to accept a slow progression of skill. But he (ii) _______ this advice every step of the way, pushing his hands as hard as he could. Now that he was staring down the harsh reality of carpal tunnel syndrome, he wished that he had taken their advice.
I am going to skip the first blank, since it is easier to tackle the second one first.
Looking at the sentences:
They said that he would just have to accept a slow progression of skill. But he (ii) _______ this advice every step of the way, pushing his hands as hard as he could.
They are contrasting each other, because of the logic word BUT and in the second sentence we have to idea chuncks that are supporting each other with a coma. Meaning that the blank must be contrasting with taking their advice, and supporting with pushing as hard as he could to progress, so I would guess ignored. The best option is flouted.
In the first blank, now that we answered the second one, it is pretty clear that he regrets it, the evidence is in the last sentence. He is perplexed by his own obstinacy is the best option.
This is just my train of thought, it could be wrong.
