Re: Employees who demonstrate too much alacrity in the workplace [#permalink]
tepid has a second meaning of "showing little enthusiasm". Can anyone explain why saturnine is more suitable than tepid?

here the meaning of the sentence is, actually, this: the employees will take the job because of they are more eager and enthusiast to work than lazy workers.

tepid does not fit really well here. I would say is out of scope.

Ask if something is still unclear to you.

Sorry to ask it's still not clear. Tepid means low enthusiasm, listless. Then how it is out of scope? It can mean that the employees having less enthusiasm and not much willing to work. Please explain.

Tepid means slightly warm and in particular is referred to liquid things.

Torpid means apathetic with when someone does not have so much enthusiasm.

Hope now is more clear.

I too have the same query. "Tepid" means "unenthusiastic" apart from the other meaning "lukewarm". Hence it fits the context i.e lack of enthusiasm (opposite of alacrity). So how can tepid not be the answer?

A tepid person in somehow does something.

A person torpid is completely lazy. The sense of the sentence is just this: some workers are lazy and others will be in charge of the job they first do not perform.

Hope now is clear.
