My simple question is, how or where is it given that they have to be same integers? if it is given ascending order then 14 comes after 13, so if the second value is 13 and x has to be 14. How are we assuming it can be 13 again?

We have 10, 13, x, 16, y, 26.
Sum = Average ร Number of terms
So, we have,
(10 + 13 + x + 16 + y + 26) = 16 ร 6
x + y = 31
As all the scores are in ascending order, value of x would be from 13 to 16.
Similarly, the value of y would be from 16 to 26.
Values of x and y would be in the mentioned range, and their summation should be 31.
If x = 13, y must be 18. (difference is 5)
If x = 14, y must be 17. (difference is 3)
If x = 15, y must be 16. (difference is 1)
