Quantity A

y

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Hi there,

In Manhattan (Geometry section) there is the following question (attached file).

As you can see, there wasn't mentioned that this quadrilateral is a rectangular but when I checked the answer (C) I saw that it was considered as a rectangular! But I think it is not correct since referring to the geometry we know that just 2 angles are 90 and we are not sure about the other two angles. What is your idea?

Thanks

Hi,

please follow the rules for posting on the board. It would be beneficial for all the students. The way you posted is not a good manner.

Thank you for your collaboration.

Moreover, which MGRE book are you referring to ??

In the explanation, there is no mention as you pointed out of a rectangle.

However, mention or not the clue here are the right angle 90° and the fact that you do have a right triangle which is based on the triplet 30-60-90.

The clue you have juxtaposed is irrelevant, indeed.

Assuming that figure represents a rectangle.

then x+2y = 90, and since the diagonal bisects the angle, x = 2y
so, x > y

Ans = A

If two angles of a quadrilateral are 90 degrees, the other 2 angles must also be 90. No?

\(x\) is not equal to \(2y\). \(x =y\). hence the answer is C.

X will be 30 since it follows \(1:\sqrt{3}:2\)

I believe the correct answer is C

In the right triangle, the opposite side is 1 and the hypotenuse is 2. This makes it a 30-60-90 triangle, so x = 30 degrees.

The corner angle of a rectangle is 90 degrees, which means x + 2y = 90.

Substituting x = 30 gives: 30 + 2y = 90 -> 2y = 60 -> y = 30 degrees.

Since x = 30 and y = 30, both quantities are equal (C).
