The following appeared in a health magazine published in Corpora.
"Medical experts say that only one-quarter of Corpora's citizens meet the current standards for adequate physical fitness, even though twenty years ago, one-half of all of Corpora's citizens met the standards as then defined. But these experts are mistaken when they suggest that spending too much time using computers has caused a decline in fitness. Since overall fitness levels are highest in regions of Corpora where levels of computer ownership are also highest, it is clear that using computers has not made citizens less physically fit. Instead, as shown by this year's unusually low expenditures on fitness-related products and services, the recent decline in the economy is most likely the cause, and fitness levels will improve when the economy does."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted. (uncalled for)
The original statement from the health magazine in the Corpora community is on the merits of a low economical fall. The cause for lack of physical activity and depleting health fitness standards is due to the sedentary work lifestyle of its citizens. Perhaps the economical downfall has caused the people of Corpora to work more than one job. To begin, having to work more hours to make ends meet could be a lead into the decline of fitness-health awareness. Unusually low profits of fitness-related products is due to a plunge in the economy not leaving any spending money for the citizens. Secondly, the citizens of Corpora, who so happened to be made up by the highest computer activity region were at the fittest levels when the job market was also in good shape. There is no more free time for the good citizens of Corpora because they are hard at work between places. This would result in the inability to have room in to their daily schedule for physical activity, let alone to take care of themselves. In conclusion, the facts of the original statement are supported due to the unusually low expenditures caused by an economical downfall resulting in the citizens of Corpora to work more jobs and hours debilitating their overall physical fitness needs.
