A The quantity in Column A is greater
B The quantity in Column B is greater
C The two quantities are equal
D The relationship cannot be determined from the information given
We'll use the fact that
angles on a line add to 180°So, for example: x + (w - 1) = 180°
Likewise, we can write: y + (w + 1) = 180°
Since both equations are set equal to 180°, we can conclude that: x + (w - 1) = y + (w + 1)
Remove brackets to get: x + w - 1 = y + w + 1
Subtract w from both sides to get: x - 1 = y + 1
Add 1 to both sides to get:
x = y + 2Now take the two quantities and replace x with
y + 2We get:
Quantity A:
y + 2Quantity B: y
At this point, we can see that
y + 2 is GREATER THAN y
Answer: A
