In 1970, company X had 2,000 employees, 15% of whom were women, and 10% of these women were executives. In 2012, the company had 12,000 employees, 45% of whom were women. If
40% of those women were executives, what was the percent increase in the number of women executives from 1970 to 2012?
First solve for how many execs are women in 1970:
\(2000 * \frac{15}{100} = 300\) --> This is total number of women in 1970 at Company X
\(300 * \frac{10}{100} = 30\) --> This is the number of women execs in 1970 at Company X
Now solve for how many execs are women in 2012:
\(12000 * \frac{45}{100} = 5400\) --> This is total number of women in 2012 at Company X
\(5400 * \frac{40}{100} = 2160\) --> This is the number of women execs in 2012 at Company X
Now we have to solve for the percent increase by using the percent increase formula (google it if this doesn't make sense):
\(2160 - 30 = 2130\)
\(2130 / 30 = 71\)
\(71 * 100 = 7100\)
The answer is
7100%
