I am struggling with the ratio problem
The ratio of the number of girls to that of boys is 3 to 2. If the girls leave, the ratio is 4 to 3, what is the total number of students after two girls leave?
A) 28
B) 24
C) 22
D) 21
The answer is 28 A
I don't how to solve this. please help.
Let there be 3x girls and 2x boys.
From the second relation we know
\(\frac{(3x - 2)}{2x}= 4/3\)
\(\frac{(9x - 6)}{8x}= 1\)
\(x = 6\).
So there are 18 girls and 12 boys. Total 30 students hence 28 students after the 2 girls left.
