Some people believe that teaching morality should be the foundation of education. Others believe that teaching a foundation of logical reasoning would do more to produce a moral society. Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented above.
There are different views within he society on what should be the basis of education to produce high morality in society. Is it logical reasoning or teaching morality that is more important and would provide better results? To my mind to teach norms of morality is more important and I have several reasons to support my reasoning.
First, we used to think that a child gets understanding of the norms of morality from his parents. Indeed, when we decided between wrong and right, evil and good many of us tend to think: "What will my dad do? Will my mom be proud for me?"However, there are some situations when this "primary education" can not be received, or when a child sees a bad example in his parents. Perhaps, one of them got into jail for the robbery. What should we do then? Should we exclude these people in advance from our high morality society so that they would not bring in moral depravity? Of course, not. Here is where education plays a major role.
Second, often we assume that highly educated people are by design people with strong morality. But this is not always a 100% true. There are some examples in the modern history that highly intelligent people can lack morality and commit wrong actions. For example, the recent situation with the submarine inventor from Sweden. He was a highly intelligent person and his inventions were highly praised by society. However, he was accused of killing a reporter when she was taking an interview with him. Not only he killed her, he also tortured her before and after the death. This person clearly has no any understanding about morality. So here education can also play a major role.
However, I think that it is also important to teach logical reasoning. Because it simply makes people more clear-minded and impartial. They become able to evaluate facts and draw strong an unambiguous conclusions based on them. For example, we all remember an old story about king Solomon. When two women came to him to help them decide who's child was that, king Solomon was using his logical reasoning and this helped to resolve the situation in a true way.
In conclusion, I believe that teaching both morality and logical reasoning is important for producing a moral society. Indeed, these two things come together. The world is complex, so are the problems that we encounter so it is important to use both instruments to help make weighted decisions.
