The figure above is made up of 4 squares. If a straight line segment were to be drawn from A to B, it would have a length of 8√2 units. What is the perimeter of the entire figure in units?

As square has all the sides equal.
Otherwise must be specified. In this case, we fairly might assume they are equal.

The problem says "The figure above is made up of 4 squares." . We know that each of those four figures is a square, but we are not told that they are all equal.

A. 20
B. 32
C. 40
D. 64
E. 80
across one square the distance would be 4√2
4√2=√2a2 16*2 = 32 = 2a^2 16 = a^2 a = 4
Then count edges. 10
4*10 = 40
Perhaps a faster way of doing the math would be putting 4 under the radical to get \sqrt{32} and recognizing that 16*2 so the length must be 4 for each side.
